Gianmarco Pozzecco takes over ASVEL

ASVEL Villeurbanne ended its coaching search after officially announcing Gianmarco Pozzecco as their new head coach. Pozzecco, who will remain the head coach of the Italian National Team, will make his appearance as a coach for the first time in the EuroLeague.

He’s replacing TJ Parker, who parted ways with the club after a 0-4 start to the 2023/24 EuroLeague season.

Gianmarco Pozzecco has worked in turn at Orlantina, Varese, Fortitudo Bologna and Sassari and he led the Italy NT to two consecutive FIBA Basketball competitions in the last two years.

The 51-year-old coach began his coaching career in 2012 with Orlandina Basket and coached Varese before joining Cedevita as an assistant.

After two years in Ljubljana, he returned to Italy and briefly led Fortitudo Bologna before taking over at Dinamo Sassari in 2019.

He also worked as an assistant under Ettore Messina in Olimpia Milan and then replaced Romeo Sacchetti at the helm of the Italian national team.
