Pistons free fall continues as they get one loss closer to tie NBA record

The Detroit Pistons are not at their best after starting the 2023/24 season with two wins in their first three games. Since, things did not work out well for Monty Williams and co., as they are one loss away from tying NBA’s 26-game losing record.

Against the short-handed Utah Jazz, the Piston faced the same issues that put them in the hole losing 119-111 at home. As “Sell the Team” chants broke out with less than one minute remaining in Thursday’s game, the Pistons are set to play struggling Brooklyn on two consecutive occasions, hoping to not set a new record of consecutive losses.

“I want to be careful with my words because this one hurts more than most of them. A team that played last night gets 30 points off turnovers and rebounds. This one is unbelievably hard to understand how we can get outworked in those categories. That is absolutely on me,” Pistons head coach Monty Williams said after the loss.

As for the team’s star Cade Cunningham who led the Pistons with 28 points and 10 assists, but also having 6 turnovers vs. Utah, the Pistons need to fight in order to not end up to the wrong side of history. However, the goal remains to build something sustainable for the future.

“It’s definitely on my mind. That’s history that nobody wants to be a part of. We’re trying to build something that’s sustainable. It’s not like we’re just trying to win one game. We want to win multiple games,” Cunningham said.

The 2010/11 Cavaliers and the 2013/14 Sixers have set the bar with 26 consecutive losses which is the worst losing record of consecutive games in the history of the NBA.
