Ja Morant to undergo season-ending surgery

Memphis Grizzlies superstar Ja Morant will undergo a season ending surgery after suffering a tear labrum during Saturday’s practice, the team announced.

The 2-times NBA All-Star felt “soreness and instability” in his right shoulder and underwent an MRI that revealed the injury.

Morant had only returned from a 25-game suspension and propelled Memphis to a 6-3 record matching the team’s win mark for the first 25 games of the season. The explosive guard is expected to make a full recovery for the 2024-2025 season.

Ja Morant averaged 25.1 points and 8.1 assists in his nine games this season before becoming the second Grizzlies player to miss the season after starting center Steven Adams. The Grizzlies are at 13-23 sitting 13th in the Western Conference.

The Grizzlies superstar returned to action on December 19 and registered 34 points, eight assists and six rebounds and made the game-winning shot for Memphis vs. the Pelicans. He missed the first 25 games after repeatedly violating league rules.
