Greece NT receives devastating injury news

While there is still time for the Olympic Qualification tournament that will take place between 2-7 July in four different parts of the world. The Greece NT has already received some ominous news as they are expected to be without forward Thanasis Antetokounmpo.

Antetokounmpo, brother of Giannis Antetokounmpo, will miss the Olympic qualifiers after suffering a ruptures Achilles. Therefore, he will not be able to help Greece NT in the Pre-Olympic Tournament which is set to be held at the Peace and Friendship Stadium from July 2 to 7.

Thanasis was fully healthy against the Indiana Pacers, suiting up in garbage time in Game 6 last week. Thus, it’s unclear when he sustained the injury as Shams Charania reported the news Wednesday.

Achilles ruptures usually keep out players out for the season and therefore he will be unavailable for Greece NT this summer. He played in various tournaments for Greek nationtal team including the 2017 EuroBasket, the 2019 FIBA World Cup, the 2022 EuroBasket and the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

He’s part of the Milwaukee Bucks in the last five seasons and won an NBA championship with them in 2021. Antetokounmpo has long been a fan favourite due to his energy, locker room presence, and leadership.

This season, Thanasis played in 34 games with the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA, where he averaged 0.9 points, 0.4 rebounds and 0.5 assists per 4.6 minutes.
