Steve Kerr stays with Warriors on a new, 2-year deal

Steve Kerr will remain with the Golden State Warriors for another two years, after the two sides agreed to a deal through the summer of 2026, worth a total of $35 million. Under the new contract, the veteran coach will become the highest-paid head coach in the league.

Steve Kerr took over the Warriors back in 2014 and has led the franchise to four NBA championships and six Finals appearances. He will now have the chance to lead Golden State to the top again.

Kerr had expressed the desire to stay with the Warriors past his current deal and wasn’t concerned about his future with the squad. The two sides were in talks and eventually reached an agreement.

Draymond Green has been a cornerstone of the Golden State Warriors’ dynasty since 2014. A four-time NBA champion, Green has a vital role in Steve Kerr’s system alongside Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

After Friday’s win over the Charlotte Hornets (84-97), Draymond Green shared his excitement about Steve Kerr staying with the Warriors on a new deal.

“A lot of money, whew. I think it’s incredible, wouldn’t want to finish my time here with any other coach, and what he’s meant to this franchise, what he’s done for us as players, the winning ways that he brought here, you can’t replace that. And so, very happy for Steve and his family, got what he deserved,” Draymond Green said, via NBA.com.

“You’re with Pop, it doesn’t get much better than that. That’s exactly the realm of coaching when you look at coaches as a whole, that’s the realm that he’s in. So, happy to see and it’s great knowing that we’ll all be in this together.”

Green and the rest of the Warriors have their sights set on turning things around and clinching a spot in the playoffs, either directly or via the play-in tournament. They are currently 10th in the standings with a 29-26 record and have won three in a row. They hold the final play-in spot.
