Draymond Green believes Jayson Tatum will become MVP only if the Celtics win a championship

Draymond Green shared some interesting thoughts on the MVP race and Jayson Tatum’s place in it. The four-time champion with the Golden State Warriors doesn’t like the fact that Tatum isn’t a frontrunner to claim the MVP award and believes this will happen only if the Boston Celtics win the NBA championship.

“Jayson Tatum will not be taken seriously for MVP until he wins a championship. It hasn’t been that way for everybody else,” Draymond Green said about Tatum on the recent episode of his podcast.

Jayson Tatum has been the undisputed leader of the Boston Celtics with averages of 26.9 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists, on 36.5 percent from beyond the arc.

The Celtics have the best record in the NBA with 45 wins and 12 losses, seven and a half games ahead of the Cleveland Cavaliers, who are second in the East (37-19).

Jayson Tatum addresses MVP race; calls himself the best player in the league

Jayson Tatum continues to elevate his game and play at an MVP level year after year. Even though he hasn’t won a championship or the MVP award yet, he has been confident enough that this will happen soon. During the All-Star Break last week, he even went as far as to say that he is the best player in the league.

“I got a lot of respect for a lot of guys in the league. Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic, Joel Embiid, the list goes on. A lot of great players in the league. But, I believe that every time I step on the floor, I am the best player. I am a big believer that everything happens for a reason and maybe I needed to go through that (2022 Finals) to learn from it and become a better player,” Jayson Tatum recently said in an interview with Malika Andrews of ESPN.

The MVP race in the NBA remains intense, with Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic being frontrunners to claim it. Jayson Tatum and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander are also in the mix.

Reigning NBA MVP Joel Embiid recently became ineligible to repeat as the MVP, due to the injuries he has been dealing with. As a result of that, he will have appeared in less than 65 games at the end of the regular season. The NBA has a 65-game threshold for players to be considered for the major awards.
