Baskonia signs star forward on multi-year extension

Baskonia has announced the agreement between the club and forward Tadas Sedekerskis. The two sides agreed on a five-year deal that will keep the breakout star in the team until the end of the 2028-29 season. Sedekerskis started his career in Baskonia and he will remain with his parent club for an extended period of time.

The Lithuanian forward is amid a breakout season with the “red and blue” averaging 9.8 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. He’s shooting 45.7% from beyond the arc and an efficient 69% on two-pointers. A Lithuanian international, the 26-years old forward started his season with excellent performances in the FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Tadas Sedekerskis was named the captain of Baskonia’s team this season joining the team 11 years ago. He became a professional in the Spanish ACB organization during the 2016/17 season. He spent his first few seasons in various loan spells in Lithuania and Spain before becoming a regular for Baskonia during the last three years.

Tadas Sedekerskis has played 227 games with the ACB powerhouse since the start of his professional career, winning the ACB in the 2019/20 season.

Baskonia’s star has blossomed during the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup

Tadas Sedekerskis has been an important part of the Baskonia’s team the last three seasons, but he rose to prominence during his appearance in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. The Lithuanian forward finished the competition averaging 6.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.1 assists in 23 minutes of play.

The breakout forward has garnered interest as he was a big part of the Lithuanian team that beat several big names during the competition including the Team USA, which finished fourth in the latest edition of the Basketball World Cup that took place in the Philippines and Indonesia.

That said, Tadas Sedekerskis will hope to help the slumping Spanish powerhouse reach the EuroLeague playoffs in the remaining games of the 2023/24 campaign. Baskonia is sitting 8th with a 14-13 record and they need a boost in the remaining 7 games to make at least the play-in tournament.
