Serbia coach hopeful Nikola Jokic, Vasilije Micic will play in the Olympics

Serbia coach Svetislav Pesic opened up about the roster for the 2024 Olympic Games and was hopeful he would have both Nikola Jokic and Vasilije Micic available to play in the tournament. Jokic and Micic play for the Denver Nuggets and Charlotte Hornets, respectively, and it is still unclear if they will play this summer.

“Most of the players who were at the World Cup come from a similar generation. Two-thirds of the Manila team were born in 1994 or 1995. That is our advantage. We hope that two from that generation, Nikola Jokic and Vasilije Micic, will play in this tournament. But we can’t know that yet,” Pesic told Meridian Sport, via Eurohoops.net.

Serbia is among the teams that have already qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games and will take on Team USA, South Sudan and the winner of the Qualifying Tournament in Puerto Rico in Group C.

Svetislav Pesic expects the 2024 Olympic Games to be super competitive, as there are several teams that are expected to fight for a place in the podium.

“This Olympic tournament will be one of the best in history. Out of 12 teams, 10 are ready and have a chance to fight for a medal. This has never happened in the history of the Olympic Games,” Pesic said.

Aside from Serbia and Team USA, teams like Germany, Canada, hosts France and Australia should be considered frontrunners to fight for a medal.

Aside from Group C action, Australia will play Canada and the winners of the Qualifying Tournaments in Greece (Piraeus) and Spain (Valencia) in Group A. Group B consists of France, Germany, Japan and the winner of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Latvia (Riga).
