Barcelona extends winning streak vs Real Madrid to five games

Barcelona survived a late overtime thriller vs Real Madrid (108-97) and extended its winning streak over the “Whites” to five games.

The “Blaugrana” now are 5-1 vs Real Madrid in all competitions (ACB, EuroLeague, Copa Del Rey, Spanish SuperCopa). The only victory for Real came in the Spanish Supercopa back in September (83-88).

Real trailed by as many as 12 in the contest (20-8), but turned things around and were down by five at halftime (51-46).

Barcelona was in control for the majority of the second half, but the “Whites” came back again in the fourth. With five seconds to go, Sergio Llull gave his team the lead (88-89).

Brandon Davies missed the game-winning shot, but Sertac Sanli was fouled and made one free throw to force overtime (89-89). In the extra period, the Catalans outscored their opponents 19-8 and won the game.

Six players scored in double figures for the winners, with Nicolas Laprovittola leading the way with 20 points. Gabriel Deck led six Real players in double digits, with 17 points.

Barcelona improved to 22-5 in the ACB standings, whereas Real dropped to 19-8. The two franchises now have their sights set on the EuroLeague playoffs.

The “Blaugrana” will take on Bayern Munich, while Real Madrid will play either Anadolu Efes or Maccabi Tel-Aviv. The playoffs tip off on April 19.
