The 2021 EuroLeague champion was the head coach of the Turkish NT between 2014 and 2016. His initial stint featured an eighth place in the 2014 World Cup and a 14th place in the 2015 EuroBasket.

Prior to the participation in the 2022 EuroBasket, Ataman and his team will have to go through the 2023 FIBA World Cup European Qualifiers Group B. Turkey will host Belarus and Great Britain to complete the six-game round of the preliminary phase.

Turkey will try to clinch its place in the next round of the Basketball World Cup as one of the top three sides of the four-team group.

“I want to make it clear to all fans and players who will be selected that we are here to win EuroBasket, World Cup, and Olympic medals,” Ataman said in the press conference (h/t to Matteo Andreani).
