Bayern Munich announces the signing of big man Freddie Gillespie

Bayern Munich announced another great addition in its frontcourt with the signing of big man Freddie Gillespie to a two-year deal. The 25-year-old split time between the Orlando Magic and the Grizzlies’ G-League affiliate Memphis Hustle last season.

“Freddie is a young, very promising player who will provide us with a tremendous presence with his physical ability in the zone and defending the ring,” FCBB Sports Director Daniele Baiesi said on Freddie Gillespie.

Gillespie made a total of 29 appearances in the NBA, 20 of them in his first professional season during 2020/2021 for the Toronto Raptors. On average, he spent around 18 minutes on the court with a 50 percent shot percentage and almost five rebounds per.

He holds NBA career averages of 4.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 0.5 assists throughout 29 games. Gillespie started his NCAA career in a third division college in Carleton before joining Baylor between 2018-2020.

He went undrafted in the 2020 NBA Draft but his physical play and gifts secured him an NBA contract.

“I’m sure that Europe and especially Munich is the right place for me at this moment to develop my game and improve. What I will bring is first and foremost my mentality of wanting to get the best out of every situation; plus rebounding, defense, defending the rim” Gillespie said after signing his contract with Bayern.

Bayern Munich announced its third offseason signing after Danko Brankovic and Elias Harris.
