Team USA beats China to remain perfect in Women’s Basketball World Cup

After a slow start, WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson was clutch in the fourth quarter, finishing with 20 points to help the Team USA beat China 77-63 in a game for Group A of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.

The Team USA now has won 25 consecutive World Cup games since losing in the 2006 semifinals to Russia. The U.S. advanced to the quarterfinals and are one win away from matching their record 26-game run from 1998-2006.

The U.S. (3-0) led 25-20 with 6:23 left in the first half before outscoring China 19-5 the rest of the second quarter. Wilson closed the half with a putback that made it 44-25 in her first game with the team.

5. She and Las Vegas teammates Chelsea Gray and Kelsey Plum were playing in their first game since getting to Australia after winning the WNBA championship. China (2-1) experienced its first defeat in the competition despite Meng Li scoring 21 points.
