Dimitris Itoudis announced as the new head coach of Greek NT

Dimitris Itoudis was appointed as the new head coach of the Greek national team, the Hellenic Basketball Federation announced earlier.

Itoudis was hands down the no.1 target for the Greek federation, but the negotiations weren’t easy, since CSKA Moscow had to give its permission to let the deal happen.

The seven-time EuroLeague champion (two as head coach and five as an assistant) will take over his new duties in the upcoming 2022 EuroBasket.

Itoudis succeeds basketball Hall of Famer Rick Pitino as the Greece head coach. Pitino was at the helm of the team during the 2021 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Canada last summer.

Greece will compete in Group C of the tournament along with Great Britain, Italy, Ukraine, Croatia and Estonia. The games of the first stage will be held in Milan, Italy.

“It is really a big, tremendous honor. I would like also to thank Mr.Liolios and other people in the Federation for their interest and effort to bring me to this position. As I said before, something that you want deep in your heart turns into reality, you create the world you live in,” Itoudis said.

“I know the expectations. Greeks are proud nation, they like basketball, basketball brings them joy. I also know our obligations. I wish our players to stay healthy and look forward to working hard together.”
