Jrue Holiday among top candidates to join Team USA for the 2024 Olympics

Boston Celtics star guard Jrue Holiday is reportedly drawing significant interest by USA basketball to join the team for the 2024 Olympics.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Jrue Holiday has yet to commit himself, but the team officials are aggressively pursuing the veteran star guard.

Holiday was part of the team that won the gold medal in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Holiday was “considered the second most impactful player” on the 2021 team behind Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant, per the report.

Team USA is coming off a disappointing appearance in the recent FIBA World Cup as the team failed to make an impact in the defensive end losing to Germany and Canada in the semifinal and third-place game, respectively.

Jrue Holiday is considered to be the best perimeter defender in the NBA this past years. A five-time NBA All-Defensive selection, Holiday averaged 19.3 points, 7.4 assists, 5.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 67 games for the Milwaukee Bucks last season.

He was traded to Portland a few days ago in a blockbuster deal that sent Damian Lillard to Milwaukee. In the aftermath of that trade, Holiday was traded to Boston.

After failing in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, Team USA is expected to put together a star-studded roster which will likely include Stephen Curry, LeBron James, Joel Embiid, Kevin Durant and others.

The Basketball Olympic tournament will be held from 27 July to 11 August 2024 in Paris, France.
